BIO UPDATE (4/4/23):  From Amigo's Foster Mom: Amigo has been with us for a few weeks and has come a long way from the first day he arrived. He is still cautious but is making great strides in trusting us. He now comes to us when he is outside and runs around the yard as if he has always been here. He loves being in your lap and lays on his back to take a nap. But it is his kisses that will melt your heart! Amigo will wrap his head around your neck and let you know that he loves that you are taking care of him. He loves his humans and just wants to be with them. We are still working on leash training, and he has made some progress but still does not like being on a leash. If you are looking for a companion who will sit in your lap, snuggle with you, and follow you wherever you go, then Amigo may be for you. He does need someone who is home a lot because he gets bored and goes exploring.

Amigo deserves a great life with someone who will love him as much as he will love them!

BIO:  Hello, my name is Amigo! I would first like to tell you a little about myself. I came to the rescue with my 2 brothers and 1 sister when our family in Alabama could no longer care for us. I have never been socialized, so I am still scared. But if you are willing to be patient with me, I will learn to trust you. I don’t like it when you tower over me, but if you get close to my level, I am okay. Another thing I don't like is big dogs. I can be your only dog, but if you do have a doggie buddy for me, they must be under 20 pounds.

I am a fast learner! In just a few days with my foster parents, I learned how to use their ramps and their doggie doors. After a few days, I am crawling into their laps, and so far, not so bad. I have only been here a week, and I haven’t had any accidents in their house. They do have to take me out regularly because I love to sleep. A soft bed, a warm blanket, and a long nap are the best! I also have lost a few teeth, but that’s okay, as I still have a lot left. There are a couple that you will need to keep an eye on in the future.

So, here are some things my foster mom says I must have:

  • A family that will love me unconditionally and not be gone all the time. Please do not want me just for my good looks.
  • A fenced yard. I am fast, so if I get away, I might not come back.
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos. I need to be able to play in my yard!
  • Although it is not a must, a small doggie brother or sister so that I have someone to learn from and to snuggle with would be a good thing.

If you think I am the one for you and you are the one for me, please complete an application for me.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
