BIO:  We can't believe this boy is still with us after all this time! We had him DNA tested, and he is 91% Dachshund. Both parents have to carry the recessive gene to create the all-black Dachshund.

Jax loves playing with his toys and will play by himself or with you. And he loves lap time! He will go in his crate at night to sleep with no fuss. Why are people not looking at him to adopt, he asks. He's a great dog, so why??

How can you resist that face?!

Jax came to us from a shelter in middle Alabama, where the owners surrendered him. It looks as though he had been a breeder dog or something of that nature because it appears he had a cattle tag in his ear that, at some point, had been ripped out.

Jax loves squeaky toys and will play fetch with you a little bit until he gets tired of you throwing them. He loves being under the covers. We are sure he’d love to sleep in the Big Bed, but for now, he has to sleep in a crate with the door open or in a dog bed in the bedroom.

Our must-haves for adorable Jax include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is home a lot as he does enjoy his people
  • LOTS of toys
  • Someone who will give him tons of love
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos

This sweet guy just might be the pup for you! Jax will follow you everywhere and keep you company on the couch when you’re reading or watching TV. Can’t ask for more than that unless you can train him to bring you a drink out of the fridge!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
