BIO UPDATE (1/31/2023):  This sweet girl has been in her foster home for a month, and I have discovered she is a bundle of energy! She does everything at one speed, and that's wide open. After receiving her ancestry report, it's no wonder. Tess is 26% Dachshund, and the rest is terrier... all kinds of terrier. This girl needs an active young family.

Tess is very inquisitive, always trying to figure it out! She loves to run and play. I have had no problems with her around my granddaughter. She loves toys. Tess plays hard and loves even harder. She sleeps in the Big Bed, and when she is ready for bed, she doesn't move!

BIO:  Tess came from North Alabama when she was turned into the shelter because they were moving. She was VERY scared in the animal shelter, so we picked her up immediately. Once we got Tess to the foster mom’s house, she was a different dog. Tail wagging and happy! It didn’t take her long to fall into the routine of the household.

Our must-haves for beautiful Tess include:

• A fenced yard
• Someone who works from home or a stay-at-home person
• Another younger, small dog for her to play with or hang with
• No apartments, condos, or high-rises
• Sleeping in the Big Bed

She doesn’t play much with the other dogs in the foster home or with toys, she prefers to hang with the foster mom or dad, whoever is home. Tess does, however, like to sleep in the Big Bed with the family, so if you don’t allow this, then please don’t apply. She would be very unhappy if she couldn’t sleep with you. She does use the doggie door when she has to go out.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. 

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. 

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
