BIO:  We have had Teddy for a week now and given his history, he is doing remarkably well. He was a puppy mill breeding dog, forced to live on a concrete pad with a dog house built over the pad. He was surrendered into rescue because basically he was getting too old for breeding stock.

Teddy lost all of his teeth due to the breeder’s neglect, so he will be on softened food or canned food for the remainder of his life. Despite all of these issues, he is incredibly well-mannered and as sweet as he can be! His foster dad cannot imagine that he would not get along with another dog. He is very chill, being just as happy napping in a kennel (that he has gone into in his own) or on your lap. We are happy to say that Teddy is now living the good life and learning to be a pet AND to play with toys!

His potty training is coming along nicely. When Teddy first came into the house there was a good bit of marking going on, but that has decreased greatly and he does very well if you take him outside regularly. Since he does not particularly like being crated, he has been staying in a space just outside the guest bathroom with a baby gate. He has not soiled this area at all.

Teddy is a sweet, sweet dog! He has had a rough life, but all of that is behind him now and he just needs someone who has a lot of love to give.

Teddy's must haves include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another dog or two to keep him company
  • More of a quiet home that can have calm children or grandchildren
  • Someone with patience to help him completely understand what it’s like to be a spoiled member of the family

You won’t be sorry if you adopt this little boy!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state they are being fostered in.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
