BIO:  Max came from a home in Georgia that could no longer care for him and they reached out to rescue to see if we would find him a good home. This is a sweet, sweet boy who plays hard but sleeps hard too. We are going to be very picky where he goes so if you do not meet all of the requirements we have set forth below, please don’t waste your time filling out an application. Our must haves for little Max include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young small dog (preferably a Dachshund) for him to play with
  • No apartments or high rises
  • An adopter who will not be gone for more than 4 hours to finish housebreaking him
  • An adopter who can keep up with his puppy energy and who has raised a puppy in recent years

While Max is a laid back boy don’t let him kid you, he is ALL puppy and if you don’t have another young dog for him to play with, he will get bored and get into things he shouldn’t. When he can’t get outside he will use a puppy pad or he’ll also use a doggie door but he still forgets so you have to be patient as he learns where to potty, but he’s a smart little boy. We suspect he’ll be about 14 pounds when full grown, so he’ll be a tweenie. His fur is beautiful - it’s wavy so he’ll have to be brushed weekly or we are sure that it will mat.

If you are looking for a puppy to keep your puppy happy and entertained, then Max is the one for you!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
